House Progress Pictures, Aug 2003 to present

Back Yard   The back yard was completely covered in grass with two tiny patios at the back door. We had contractors build a large deck that wraps around the rear of the house, and then Rob and I built a covered 'pergola' on one side (affectionately know as the Parthenon). In the next few months we will be landscaping, planting some trees, and building raised veggie gardens.

Cat   This has been Barney's contribution during the entire process.

Front Yard   The first picture shows the area where we will add on a new living room and one car garage. We'll also replace the almost-flat roof with a normal roof. The front landscaping is beautiful and is just starting to bloom with the warmer weather.

Guest Bedroom   Most stuff in here was cosmetic: new window, baseboards, electic outlets, lights, and paint.

Hallway   One of these days I'll get around to painting the hall. We plan to replace all of the ugly painted hollow doors with nice new doors. And we'll build new doors for the cabinets at the end of the hall.

Kitchen   I'm not entirely sure what went with the frightening red wall in the nook. We replaced all of the appliances and moved the stove to the peninsula. We salvaged some cabinets from one of mom's neighbors who was remodelling his kitchen and expanded the peninsula tremendously. Some of the existing cabinets were in OK condition, so we just painted the old and new cabinets to match, and we'll build new doors for all of them. We also replaced the lights, upgraded the electrical, and replaced the window and door.

Living Room   This room will become the Game Room after the remodel. Rob and I built the coffee table out of a thrift shop table and a sheet of copper.

Main Bath   I don't think anyone had done anything to this bathroom since the house was built in 1960. I had planned to have this room finished before we moved in 6 months ago, but my revised schedule has me finishing it mid April. Mom built the cabinets, and Rob and I made custom drawer pulls.

Master Bedroom   Rob had some beloved Indonesian furniture, and I fell in love with these gorgeous linens. So I decided to go to town and make the room our little retreat. We LOVE this room.

Mos Eisley   AKA the storage room, this room was named by Rob. This converted garage was one of the uglier (and smellier) rooms in the house. I ripped up the carpet and spent a week scraping old linoleum adhesive from the floor. Then I faux finished the floor to give it a red, earthy look. We had the cinderblock fireplace removed, and I patched the giant hole. I ripped off the nasty, exterior grade siding from the walls and discovered decent sheetrock on 3 walls. On the 4th wall there was yet another layer of siding! We use this room for all of our toys and for Rob's computer lab.

Tiki Room   This will eventually be a kid's room. So far I've only painted and replaced the window and electrical. But the idea is to create a funky, kitchy room with giant yellow-orange plumeria on the walls. Trust me...it will look cool!

Ugly Bath   This may well be the ugliest room in the greater Pacific Northwest area. The holes in the ceiling were caused when an overhead pipe burst. This was the only area that we postponed replacing the plumbing due to inaccessibility. So now we not only have an ugly room, but a drafty, unheated one! We'll completely gut this room and divide it into a laundry room and a bath room.
